    Attatchment rules

to be honest, i think the rule about not using other places to upload pics is pretty stupid. if my links/threads start getting taken away, im just not going to post them any more, im not gonna try and adapt to using this uploading system. if there was a better way, where i could upload many pictures at a time, then i MIGHT do it, but still probably not.

the biggest problem with uploading to UCP rather than a third party host is that you cant share your pics easily on other forums. with image shack or a private gallery, you can just copy over the links, you cant do that if u upload to UCP.

and also, im not sure what the reason is for this. what do you gain by having us upload our pics here?

bottom line, if im not allowed to post links to my gallery, im not going to post pics. you may or may not care, whatever, but i think this rule is only going to piss people off, not necessarily convince them to upload to UCP.

    what happened?
    why is this not allowed?
this could also be a problem with large files. its nice that the limits were raised but there are many images way over 1mb which are nice to have at the original resolution. other image dumps alllow these files

this is slightly OT, but who actually owns UCP? if i pay my $30 who does it go to?

I think making up rules is pretty stupid myself.

Would you like to point me in the direction of the rule which states you won't be allowed to use third party sites?

    "Encourage" does not mean "force".

Also; I wouldn't think that linking to a third party site neccessarily counts as "advertising".

    So what is the problem?

    RTFA next time please...
    Thanks for all the fish

I scrutenized your latest thread and found nothing wrong with it. Yours had quite a nice preview of what was available in the gallery, which is perfectly fine in my book. The thread that was first deleted and later edited is of quite a different nature; it consisted only of a link, which in my book is advertising or spam. It does not help either that this user has very few posts and two links to other sites in his signature. You on the other hand are an active member, who has little to gain from showing his pictures.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Maybe showing/sharing photos isn't only about getting respect?

The problem with linked images and third-party sites is their is no control over what kind of site it might be getting referred to !

So it could equally be dodgy porn or scam sites - remember the buy a ticket and win a ferrari and some money goes to charity ????

Not unreasonable for ANY web site owner to "encourage" things to be on the site they know is then "safe".

I've never seen ANY link where someone has explained what's there and used image hosting to be a problem.

MORE AND MORE of those image host sites are stopping server-referrals, so embedding links and pics dont' work. As things move on then MORE sites will do this as they realise that folks aren't looking at their advertising. That this means folks have to then give links is an issue, but remember that if it's not described it will likely get kicked IF it looks an attempt to garner traffic to another site/forum it will likely get kicked. If it links to a new forum with no posts it will be RIDICULED and THEN kicked

i too am not a big fan of this because unless i just copy little joke pics over most of everything i post is around the 1mb mark or above

I thiknk that if we were bringing in a rule to only use these attachments then several GROUPS of people should be supplied with gallary's to post there pics in - like on SCF.net
Cedric - I sound like a chipmunk on there. Some friends of mine were like, "were you going through puberty?" I was like, no I was already 20, I just sound like a girl.
