I do still like the '99 (?) version of the car -- the one which did the famous aerobatics at Le Mans.
If I'm not mistaken that was the CLR.

    Correct.

    1997: CLK GTR
    1998: CLK LM
    1999: CLR

Of the CLR I think none road versions were ever built, while I think there should be one or two CLK LM road going cars.

There's also a CLK GTR Road car, no?

The one that was more CLK than CLK GTR. That one was cool, I always liked that car.

The CLK GTR road cars should be 25 units, and one of the them is featured in this very thread. Then there are the 5 Roadsters.
I think you're referring to the CLK DTM perhaps, which was a real CLK but based on the second gen. 100 units or so were built, and another additional 100 units in Cabriolet trim.

20 Coupés, 5 or 6 Roadsters (there is a Roadster with "No 6" at the plate within the car).

Only 20 coupes? I thought 25 cars was the minimum number to have the race car homologated, but perhaps that figure can include variants too, like the Roadster.
iirc two of the coupe received the "Super Sport" package, worth about 750 bhp.

Maybe they built 5 racing cars?

Afaik, "25" means 25 road going cars, otherwise even 24 racing cars and just 1 road car would be enough (but this isn't the case as for the Toyota Gt-One, the Nissan R390 or the Lotus Elise GT1).

    The rules changed after 1997.

Correct, but the car raced in 1997, therefore the road car should comply with the rules prior to the change, right?
On a side note, I thought the rule right now were still requesting at least 25 road going cars to register the racing variant.

They tried to sell 25 Coupés, but it was hard enough to sell 20 of them at the price of 3.000.000,- DM (around 1.500.000,- €). For the FIA not to cancel the results from 1997 and 1998 they came up with the idea of building the Roadster-version at the same chassis, which was allowed. So they could sell 25 roadgoing cars, although many of them never saw much road, as you can see with the only two RHD-cars (Coupé #13 and Roadster #2) which are in that RM auction now.
