I don't know guys, I not too keen on pitting one group of UCPers against another. Besides, what criteria are we gonna use to pick the teams? Are they always gonna be the same teams? Just seems to complicated to me. Besides, we never seem to run out of topics to discuss and debate about anyway

yeah but the point about 'debate' is it requres the person to put forward a case for or against what may be there own belief. Through it, we may find it helpful in the 'serious' discussions where so often facts are considered irrelevant

Learnign to debate is the healthiest thing that can be taught during those years of education.

Theres a big difference between ignoring and not contributing

Plus, theres such a thing as timezones people....Ive got it as 11:47pm when i made my last comment, and 7:23am when you made this comment.

Time difference will kill this- a debater in the UK, such as me or Matra, will be tucked up in bed in our bunny pyjamas at 3a.m. while it will be about 2 p.m. in Aus. Same goes for the evening- 6p.m. here would be about 7a.m. Austime. Not good.

You can get around that with 2 timezones, say the UK and the east coast of Australia, but yeah if you say throw in any area of North America, its a constant juggle.

BUUUT

That given, once someone posts an argument, it would then be up to a speaker from the other side to make theres right? If its kept structured, it would still work, it would just be stretched out a while.
