The Dongfeng EQ2102 3.5 ton 6X6 military utility truck was developed by Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFM) in the mid-1990s as a successor to the EQ2100 (EQ245). As the PLAs standard second-generation 3.5 ton troop/cargo carrier truck, the EQ2102 is a replacement for the ageing Jiefang CA30 and Dongfeng EQ2081/2100 in PLA service. The truck is to be equipped by the motorised infantry divisions and brigades as the primary transportation vehicle for soldiers and cargo in both on- and off-road conditions.
The EQ2102 has a maximum load capacity of 5,000kg on road and 3,500kg off-road. The primary roles for the truck include: to carry troops or cargo in the battlefield; to haul artillery guns and various trailers weighted 2.3~4.8 ton; to provide a platform for various weapon systems and equipment workshops.
The EQ2102 truck adopts a Cab-Over-Engine (COE) layout, and is available in two variants: EQ2102 with a five-man (4-door) cab and EQ2102G with a three-man (2-door) cab and a longer cargo bed. The cargo bed has its bed side rails mounted on hinges, and can be equipped with an optional bench seat kit for transport of soldiers. A canvas and bows kit is provided to keep soldiers and cargo protected from the elements. The vehicle can also be equipped with a self-recovery winch capable of fore vehicle recovery operations.
The truck is powered by a Dongfeng-made Cummins 6BT5.9 six-cylinder in line, 5.88 litre, liquid-cooled, turbo-charged, direct injection, 160hp diesel engine with a 2-speed, electrically controlled transfer case. The gear-box has five forward speeds and one reverse speed. The maximum road speed is 90km/h. The fuel tank is 145 litre. The 100km fuel consumption is 26.5 litre.
