    Building Guitar

this fall im finally getting aound to building my guitar, ive been working with wood for a long time, so i expect only medium difficulty () ill be buying wood etc now and then getting the hard ware for christmas, ill be periodically updating this thread as i get more parts or major progress is done on the body, lots of pictures for you guys

this is basically what it will look like when its done (minus shiny finish, i only want stain and a sealant)

a few details will be different and i will be using a billy gibbons humbucker and 2 SRV texas single coils (guitar guys will know what i mean)

    lemme know what you think

I can't even play guitar, much less hand-make one.

Glad to hear you're voicing your plans

I still say PRS style, I can send you photos of the wiring in the Custom 22 if you want...

3 humbuckers, all coil tapped, or 1 humbucker and 2 singlecoils?

    I know what I'd do...

yeah we had our little discussion sam i think ill go with 2 SC's 1 HB (ps i like the right "sketch")

ive always loved working with wood and have gotten quite good at it, and always loved playing guitar, so it seemed a logical next step to put the two together

if it goes well and someone likes what they see i would be open to selling future guitars

and my dad said this cabinet shop he is looking at doing business with has a huge C&C machine, so they could do custom inlays on the fingerboard for me like the doves on the fingerboard of the pics sam posted

my guitar (a Washburn X-Series) has the two single, one humbuck pickup configuration and it works great. good luck with the project

Glad you like the quick PS's I knocked up!

Just don't forget the routing, you can see the shadows of them quite clearly.

Awesome.... or.... get a job at PRS set up a second factory!!!

Go for flames on the fretboard, like Justin Hawkins has.

Same with my American Deluxe HSS and Highway 1 HSS Fender Strats. Awesome versatility.

Colin's Fender Showmaster is the same... must be something to do with liking cars, we got a hot-rodded engine at the front

Sound great. I would love to do that but dont trust myself to finish it off. I would definitely pick a PRS style too. Are yougoing to build the neck yourself or buy one. Carvin do them, it would make it a bit easier. Maybe use one of their neck through bodies!

Wow, that's a seriously ambitious project! I know diddly about guitars, but I'd imagine the tolerances arent very big if you want to get it to sound right.

Are you working from some sort of a manual? Or are you just making it up as you go along?

That would be sweet. The body of the guitar was a giant Porsche emblem! Holy crap that'd be awesome!
