as for a roadster version? Is that really planned? Doesn't seem to make much sense given the concept of this car, and it's not mentioned on their own site.

I just went on what was reported before the show:
"London-based design consultancy Fenomenon ignited the Geneva Motor Show in March with the re-birth of the Lancia Stratos. Now the company is set to do the same at Frankfurt with the Roadster version, the result of what must have been a busy few months for this new player. In taking the roof off, the company has also given its protoype an interior – something missing from the model of the closed coupe shown in Geneva. The Roadster maintains the central A-pillar of the Stratos coupe, which also acts as a crash/ rollover structure.

Developed under Design Director Serge Porcher, the Roadster takes the vision of founder Christian Hrabalek one step closer to the promised production version, this time around giving show-goers the chance to sit inside and share that dream."

The Roadster was announced for the IAA, but failed to appear. The press release now contained a letter by Alitalia allowing them to use the original sponsor livery. Netburner posted the car as shown in Frankfurt.

I liked the old one in a sublime way, I guess I liked it more after seeing the anime version in eX-Drivers I liked it because it was lowered a bit too. This new concept is a great interpretation and I love it. That thing must be kick ass to drive like a Lotus Elise!

That's not a bad nod to the original - itself pretty 'cartoon' in form.
I always liked the original BECAUSE it was so crazy to look at, not 'cause it was beautiful or proportional or elegant... and this one ticks those boxes too.
Although I'd personally clean up some of the edges on the front and simplify those tail lights a teeny bit.

I don't think it was produced. I haven't heard of any news of it.
