Aguri Suzuki announces new Honda F1 team

Former grand prix racer Aguri Suzuki has announced plans to enter Formula 1 next season with a new Honda-supported team.

In a press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday morning, Suzuki confirmed that the currently unnamed new squad had already applied for an entry to the 2006 world championship.

The team will use Honda V8 engines and Bridgestone tyres, but Suzuki did not reveal whether it would build its own chassis or use a customer version of the BAR-Honda design.

He admitted that the team faces a race against time, and is relying heavily on Honda’s support.

“As far as the chassis is concerned there is no way we can compete unless there is help from Honda,” Suzuki told autosport.com.

“I'm just hoping that we will have a workforce of at least 100 before the season opener."

Rumours of a Honda B-team have been circulating for several months, with suggestions that the Japanese manufacturer wanted to establish a second string squad where it could place ousted BAR driver Takuma Sato.

Suzuki confirmed that Sato was in contention for a drive with the new team, which will be run out of the old Arrows factory at Leafield, but said he had been considering entering F1 “since February” – long before the B-team rumours surfaced.

GOD!!!!!First Toyota and now a private team??? Damn, for what reason are more teams switching to bridgestone? Should go with Michelin. The Bridgestones only work best in wetter conditions(from automobile magazine's saying). Or is it that they don't want the same thing happening at Indianapolis again? Sooooooooooooooooo many changes come too quickly.

Now I've got a headache. I need to go lie down.

theyre switching to bridgestone because the tyre rules are back for 2006, which means that michelin may no longer be dominant, afterall they are best on long distances and have much more endurance than bridgestone do. Who are notoriously better at flying starts and very quick warm up laps which would mean if they could change their tyres more often the bridgestone teams would have the advantange. Which is the case next year.

Under the concord agreement all times have to build their own chassis, so there is little BAR can do to help the Super Aguri team out on that side of things.

More importantly, it looks like there will be one supplier as of 2007, which will most likely be Bridgestone.

For safety reasons probably. With two suppliers it's risky to have tires last this long. The FIA probably didn't expect Michelin's outlaw mentallity with their fast but fragile tires.

probably , but except Ralf's crash at Indianaoplis , in the major case , problems that Mac laren had was their own fault 'cause the car had a lot of grip or since Raikkonen blocked a wheel , anyway , that's right it was a bit dangerous
