    Ford Anglia 105E

    Ford Anglia 105E

The last version of the Ford Anglia was presented in 1960 and was fitted with a characteristically inclined rear window, also a feature of some Mercurys and the Citroen Ami 6.

The chassis did not change very much, with a normal leaf sprung live rear axle, but the new engine turned out to be a jewel. Although a simple 1000 cc OHV design, the short stroke engine could reach very high revs and became the darling of British small sports and formula car builders. Widely known as the Kent engine, it also propelled many racing Anglias which became a well known site on the tracks and still are.

In 1962 an 1200 cc version of the car appeared (the Anglia Super) which had 53 BHP in standard trim and could reach 145 kph. When production stopped in 1967, almost 1,080,000 cars had left the factory.

Here are some racing cars and a mint, low mileage example imported from Sweden and presented at the Interclassics show in Maastricht in 2005

I had not even realised that (never read a book, never saw a movie)

Used to have one when I was a kid, eldest brother had his first competitive "incident" in it. Didnt tell dad, but used it in tarmac stage event. Leapt hump bridge and pancaked the sump so far in it stopped the crank turning. I was too young and was send to my room while they "dsicussed" it in the living room

The Kent was easy to up the perfromance on and with stiffer springs it was a not bad cheap car in it's day !!

Recognised the background in pic 3 without even seeing the bin lol, Ford should take styling cues from the Anglia instead of just generating more bland boxes like the new Focus and Ka concept (both of which arent as individual as the originals and even could be said to look like they came from Hyundai or Kia)
