    Team Ultimatecarpage.com Race 2: Italy

Tonight, the second race for the ZAC2 competition will be raced. The first race showed us that we can manage to race with the best (and even beat champions), so what will tonight bring!

This evening we will race on the well known circuit of Monza. A very fast track, with fast left hand corners, and slow chicanes. The Fast corners will demand alot from the left tires, and the slow chicanes are hard to brake for, due to the bumpiness of the track. Causing alot of locked up wheels, and loads of tire wear. Overtaking possibilitys plenty, but very hard, due to the slippery condition of the track, once you are off the racing line.

    The Track

    Race Time: 75 minutes
Track Conditions: tarmac 30 degrees celcius, dry

Team ucp Driver comments before the race:
    Jeroen Ursem
A lot of practise, and alot of help with my racing line from Roy, will help me race alot more consistend then race 1. My hopes are up for a top 3 qualify (with a personal best of a 1.50.500), since other players struggle to get in the 1.50 laptimes aswell. For the race, im gonna have to go with constant 1.53's and hopefully a place within the top 5!

    Goals:
    race pace: 1:53's
    qualifing position: Top 3
    End position: Top 5

    Strategy:
    Soft Front tires
    Med Rear tires
    90 Liters of fuel
    Pit in lap 18

    Roy Visser
Even more practise then jeroen, should give me a very good chance of pole position (personal best 1.49.600). Others struggle to get in the 1.50's So i hope i can demolish them, and even scare them with a nice qualify time in the 49's. Hopefully i can get in a good fast lap, without struggling to let GT cars overtaking me. For the Race, in tests it has shown that my racepace should be around 1.52's with a pb of 1.51.500. Hopefully it will be enough. Im going to try and test out if i can manage to finish the race without pitting in. Although if i have about 45seconds lead to the car following me, i will go for it, and try for the fastest racelap. My hopes are up for another podium!

    Goals:
    race pace: 1:52.000
    qualifing position: Pole Position
    End position: Top 3

    Strategy:
    Soft Front tires
    Med Rear tires
    90 Liters of fuel
    Pit in: No pit?

    SPECIAL GUEST RACER WOUTER MELISSEN

yes people, no other then ucp's godfather, Wouter Melissen, will join us in the race. He will be driving the guest GT class car, the Corvette C5r. Not his favorite, but with laptimes in the 1.45 second race, he should be able to qualify within the top 10!

wish him the best of luck

First and formost I hope Roy can convert his stellar pace around Monza in a class win. In the last few sessions Jeroen has really picked up the pace as well, so a double podium for the Ultimatecarpage.com is not impossible. For me this race will be part of a learning curve as I am still getting to grips with GTR in general and the Corvette in particular. After driving many laps in the Ferrari 550, the decision to join in for this race has forced me to take on the C5R. The goal for this race is a sub 1:45 qualifying lap and 1:47 race pace. This will not get me on top of any chart, but hopefully consistency will allow me to get a good result when the race is over.

Fortunately you got the edge on the driving skills.

One thing we both forgot to mention is the desire to survive the first turn, which is always a problem at Monza.

My race was cut short by two incidents. The first one required a lenghty fix, but I could continue. I had settled in a pretty constant pace, gradually picking up people when an idiot decided to complete loose it around the pit entry. There was no where to go and I crashed into him at 200 km/h, immediately ending my race.

Most importantly Roy took a class win despite filthy tactics from the second placed guy's teammate. Congratulations!
