This thread will be updated throughout the 2004 V8 Supercar championship. After much debate over the 2003 points rewarding consistency above progression, i decided to make my own points system late last year based off systems used by Indy and F1. It rewards consistent driving as well as progressing through the grid, as well as the more technical side of the sport like claiming pole position, scoring the fastest lap, the fastest pitstop and winning from pole position. Based on this years reduced 32 car grid, i have modified the points to be as follows:
32: 1 31: 2
30: 3 29: 4
28: 5 27: 6
26: 7 25: 8
24: 9 23: 10
22: 11 21: 12
20: 14 19: 16
18: 18 17: 20
16: 22 15: 24
14: 26 13: 28
12: 30 11: 32
10: 36 9: 40
8: 44 7: 48
6: 52 5: 56
4: 60 3: 66
2: 72 1: 80
This of course will be the total points per round, so for each race the total points earned will just be the number of races for the round divided by the total points, so for pukekohe whish is a 3 race round, getting 20th will earn you 4.67 points and 1st will earn you 26.67 points
Bonus points are as follows:
Pole position: 2 points
Fastest lap: 2 points
Fastest pitstop: 2 points
Winning off pole position: 4 points
Fastest qualifying lap: 2 points
if anyone has any issues with the system i'd appreciate if you would PM me rather than post it in this thread as i'd rather keep this as close to topic as possible for those interested on how the 2004 season will shape up based on this system.
