The solo off All along the watchtower is good, but the Machine Gun solo really takes the cake for me. I have it on LP, god its incredible.

Starla by the Smashing Pumpkins also has a ridiculously long and good guitar solo.

If you ask me though, the solo from Freebird is totally overrated. Good, but overrated.
im a huge skynyrd fan and i agree, it would be less overrated, its an excellent solo, if it werent so damn overplayed

    The ones I can play

First solo in November Rain (Guns N' Roses) still gives me goosepimples.
The second solo in Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd really hits the spot!
I'm still a fan of playing Eruption by EVH. That's true killer stuff.
And the list is not complete without The Final Countdown!

Steve Howe is frantic, and yet the sound comes across as beautiful and well refined. Like Chicago, there's plenty more solos worth noting.
The one at the start of the song? It's beautiful.

Although i like Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler is not a guitar genius. Even so, Eric Clapton. They make (or made) nice music but its not Top notch.

Jimi Hendrix i like more but, Steve Vai is better, way better.

Thats why my list would be like this (maybe )

    1.Steve Vai - Whispering A Prayer
2.Steve Vai - For the love of God
    3.Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
3.Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
4.Bumblefoot - Guitar Suck (performed by Ron Thal)

And now i am forgetting Joe Satriani or Paco de Lucia or John Petrucci

I was referencing the middle bit, but it's that first riff once the song has gotten going that always wins me over. It's arguably one of the most beautiful licks I've ever heard. Steve Howe doesn't flaunt his virtuosity like Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page, but rather plays sophisticatedly by adding motifs like so here and there.

    Stevie Ray Vaughan - Tightrope

    Cream - Crossroads

    Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

Focus - Hocus Pocus (far from the best, but is very good for air guitar at rave parties)

On a Bad day, he designs a BMW.

you go to raves? arent those "basically" a warehouse with music and a big pile of drugs?

They can be pretty fun if everything is done right. I've been to a few of 'em, but I've stopped, because now they just piss me off.

The worst part of them is number of idiots doing stupid $#&^ like crystal meth. There's never any alcohol served either, so they're all-ages - this means that there are also skanky 13 year old girls clinging to guys twice their age and running around high on whatever pills they can find.

Illegal raves (ironically) tend to be much better because they occur within a group of people who all know each other. You tend not to get people who just pump themselves full of drugs without thinking and ruin the night for everyone else.

Well the illegal ones are just held by people who rent out a venue for an event that's basically by invite only. The DJs aren't well-known, and its very low-key. Only illegal because its not an "authorized event" - people who hold them generally do it for fun rather than money, and rarely make a penny from them; having to pay all the taxes and security costs for them to be considered "legal" would prevent them from happening altogether.

are they really illegal or is that just a term? if they rent out the venue seems like it should be legal to me...

They are definitely illegal - I'm not sure on all the specifics, but I believe it has to do with it being an event which sells tickets that aren't taxed (and it isn't a fundraiser), goes until very late hours, and doesn't have an authorized security group on hand.

I have never been to a legal rave. I generally gather a good bunch of guys, all friends, and we organise a venue, usually a house, but sometimes in a field somewhere. And, obviously, the drugs are always present. We also prohibit alcohol; people can go to night clubs for that.

There is always a big hi-fi with Rock and Roll pumped out full blast. Much better than the mainstream rubbish you hear at night clubs.
