What are the flat out best materials to make a car out of with no concern for cost? Strength to weight ratio and durability are main concerns. Mention cost effective materials if you want.

Depends what you want the car to do or be.
Any hints ?

Carbon Fibre and aluminum alloys are pretty good
NOT if you go anywhere near a forest rally stageOriginally Posted by Zytek_Fan

I heard wood is pretty good plus carpet is nice also. But carbon fibre and fiberglass is the best for light. O and i cant forget about kevlar either.

Huge displacement, low overall weight, and room for removable lead weights. A vehicle with an ideal weight for the oval track, and an amount of horsepower and speed that could be hard to reach without weights and the help of the Salt Flats. Absolutely practical for any millionaire with a love for cars.
OK, oval track.
Kevlar/carbon composite chassis with engine stressed enginem nounted in the rear with twin wisbone, rose jointed aircraft alloy suspension arms and lever to inbord coil-overs with sperate reservoirs.
Gets the weight and air resistance WAY down, puts the polar moment to the mid/rear to assist traction OUT of the corners. Assumes you can put any tyres and adjust grip accordingly to get a neutral setup.
Not cheap
or push the engin well into the passenger compartment and go FR and then get slightly better entry and through corner and slightl less thourhg and exit corner speeds. Engine doesnt' really ahve a rol as a stressed memeber then so chasis/carbon monocoque more difficult.
Still not cheap
OR steel tubed chassis with lightweight aluminium or kevlar panels.
Keep the rest as above.
VERY cheap, easily repairable

Pistons woudl get lumps blown off them every time the cylinder ignoted Not to mention the rings would scrape a layer of gold off the cylinder walls on every revolution

Actually, just use pure magnesium. I've heard it "helps combustion" or something like that Great for engines.Originally Posted by coolieman1220
