GTR UCP Porsche CUP: Skin Making Tutorial

Here it is, my Tutorial for making your very own skin, which will be used in our own Porsche CUP.

    Step 1: Choosing The Model
First of all, and a very important decision aswell, what do you want your basemodel to be? Most of you might not have noticed, but there are 4 different Porsche 996 GT3 Cup models in the game.

    1: LAND Body Style

    2: ALMERAS Body Style

    3: CHAILLET Body Style

    4: RUFFIER Body Style

These are the four body's your skin will be based on, there is no difference between the four, except looks! After you have decided its time for the next step

    Step 2: Downloading The Templates

If you choose body style number 1 (LAND) Click Here

If you choose body style number 2 (ALMERAS) Click Here

If you choose body style number 3 (CHAILLET) Click Here

If you choose body style number 4 (RUFFIER) Click Here

please, only download the template of the car you need

after you downloaded your template, it's time to proceed to the next step

Step 3: Opening and Editing the Template

this is the same for all the templates, the files are PSD, and when you open them, this will be your screen (in my case the LAND body style)

a bunch of layers, and a weird flattend porsche, it doesnt make alot of sense like this, so if you want some more information on what which parts are, you can toggle on the WireFrame layer. Your picture will then look like this

now thats allot better, you can clearly see what which parts are, rearwing, rearbumper, and where to skin. Now you can start coloring your body the way you want it. Make sure you do this in the PAINT HERE! layer. And after a while, your skin may look like this (yes its hidious, but a 10 second job!):

special attention the the mirrors, and the rear wing, dont forget those!

now we want to see if we did a good job, so its time for the next step!

Step 4: Downloading, and using Carview

First we need Carview: Download Carview

Second we need the template for Carview of the Porsche: Porsche Carview File

the bad thing about this is, that there is only one body style for carview, so you wont be able to see certain details the way its suppose to be! This program is just for you to check if everything looks the way you want it to look.

Once downloaded, unzip both files. And double click the Carviewer.exe file

a window will open, and you will see a Nascar, now lets get rid of that nascar, and upload our pretty porsche in it.

press open direct X mesh and search for the folder where you unzipped the porsche carview file in

load the porsche (even with a little kiss ) And a nice green porsche will be presented in the carview screen.

now its time for the next step!

Step 5: Getting your own skin in carview

go back to your skin which you created, and save the file as BMP overwiting the: GENERIC996CUP_S1_BODY1.bmp IN the folder in which you unzipped the porsche carview.

once you have done that, you will go into the carview window again and press: REFRESH CURRENT TEXTURE

if you have done it correctly, your skin will be presented on the car. If you havent done it correctly, then learn how to study a text :P

there will be some flaws with the colouring, but thats due to carview, and not your template! Carview is a very handy tool to see if decals are put on correctly, and if it looks the way you want it to look. If you think you are done with all this, its time to proceed to the last step

Step 6: Sending me your skin

If you are finished with the final design, save your file as a PSD format And send it to my email adress: [email protected] , PM me on ucp if you emailed me, otherwise your email may be lost in the junk folder. In your email you should state your:
    First Name
    Last Name
    Nationality
Preffered Car Number (2 digits only!)
Car Body Style (in other words LAND, REFFIER etc)

Some Last Details on your skin:
Leave Room on the Doors for your Number which will be 125*125 pixels
Dont fill in the window banner, i will make a custom CUP window banner

if you are in search of logo's, use this very helpfull website: http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/

for qeustions and previews, please resort to this thread. Most of All, be patient with your skin, some details can take ages!

if you cant wait to see what your skin looks like ingame, read this tutorial:
    http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=203190

however, i wont be answering questions about how to get your car to work. I will do this in my own time, so be patient.

    GOODLUCK!

for the people who want to create their own helmet and racing overal:

    Driver and Helmet Templates

these cant be viewed in Carview, and need to be rendered, you can send it to me on msn, or post the file as a jpg here, and i will sort you out!

i dont know if im going to customize all drivers, but im gonna see what i can do!

    Awesome dude

If anyone wants renders, email me at [email protected] with the skin saved as a .TGA file, that bit is important!!

The renders give a better image of the car

Render of my car is displayed below

Other tips - For decals, go into PS and choose the "Magic Wand Tool", and click all the bits you want to keep, then hold CTRL and Shift and Press I, then press delete, and it will delete all teh crap around it!!

Oh, and my Porsche is based on the Ruffier Racing

your decals are still very unclear though. My tip: the file format from brandsoftheworld.com is PNG, that means you can make the size as big as you want. I ussually make them as large as possible (around 1000*1000) And then use the magic wand tool to cut out all the crap. After im left with only the decal and a translucent background, i go and decide on how small i want the decal to be resized. Leaving a much sharper image as result

(look at my decals on the NGT porsche)

I did, just sounds confusing calling someithing PSD. and it downloads as .rar.

How do you get the colors to seperate when painting? Every time I apply a color it colors the whole skn template.
