A 41-year-old father of three is in critical condition this morning after he was apparently intentionally hit by a BMW in the parking lot of the Aliso Town Center, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.

John Royston, a loan officer from Aliso Viejo who played football at the University of New Mexico and coached football at Santa Margarita High School several years ago, was in critical condition at Mission Hospital In Mission Viejo, said sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday when the victim and two male friends were walking from the Opah Restaurant and Bar to the Fatburger Restaurant across the parking lot, said Amormino.

A fast-moving silver BMW went through a stop sign and the trio yelled at the driver to slow down. The BMW continued on at first and then it hit a parked Mercedes-Benz and spun around several times, Amormino said.

The BMW, occupied by two or three men in their 20s, headed toward the trio and struck the man.

“His two buddies were able to jump out of the way,” Amormino said.

He said the BMW has front-end damage from the incident and damage to the driver’s side door from what is believed to be an earlier collision.

That's just down the street from me and people do drive pretty fast even in parking lots, it was bound to happen sooner or later. The stop sign they mentioned is very easy to miss, especially if your not familiar. What sucks is the implied link between reckless driving and sporty cars as most of the reckless driving is done in SUVs here.

From the description it seems the driver got startled by the pedestrians and ran into the parked Benz. Then he was so pissed that they yelled at him which caused him to crash that he, in a fit of rage, drove at them. The kids were probably drunk or drugged, maybe both.

stuff like this happens to me every week. I think im the most daredevil member of the site because i risk my ass every couple of weeks crossing a street filled with cars driven by idiots who think that this is the're last day on earth, but i haven't been killed yet. just honked by a mini, nearly ran over by a lot of cars, vans, people on cell phones, and laughed at a lot of idiots who get punished.
Some of the cars ive seen being badly are BMW's such as the guy who ran a red light and was flying down the street like he was Jeff Gordon, i let him go and he blew past me without blinking.
