    More US Government hypocrisy

"President George W Bush said: "The Hamas party has made it clear that they do not support the right of Israel to exist. And I have made it clear that so long as that's their policy we will not support a Palestinian government made up of Hamas."

Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, said America had started to review its aid to Palestinians, saying it would not fund groups committed to the destruction of Israel."

So, you've invaded at least two countries, and been engaged in military actions against several more to remove dictatorships and install democratic government.

So when the Palestinians go and democratically elect a government, you denounce it and cut aid...

And you wonder why everyone thinks the US Government is a prime example of stupidity.

How can you possibly expect other countries on the edges of democracy - countries like Iran, and other Arab states, and the "'stans", to accept it if they see other new Arabic democratic governments being treated like this.

It only "proves" to these people that the USA is committed to opressing Arabic peoples, and fuels the same extremists the USA is supposedly "at war" with.

I dont know if this is the whole story or not, but there comes a time when a country should worry about itself and leave the rest of the world alone. GWB, that time is now.

There are 2.5 million men and women serving in Chinese military forces. This force can be reinforced by a large reserve-militia force numbering more than 1.5 million, making grand total of 4 million.

Mind you, around 1.5 million ground troops have been cut since 1980s.

There are over 1.2 billion people in china and with the laws and mentality of the people in china now, there will be far fewer chinese in the coming decades. My history teacher last year put it nicely, "The wealth of a billion people will be in the hands of about 900,000,000 in the next century." Adoption is a huge buisness over there and most chinese orphans go out of the country. Along with the emmigration and the single-child laws.

not to mention the fact that by 2020 it will literaly be IMPOSSIBLE for almost 50,000,000 chinese guys to find a girl. There simply wont be "enough to go around".

Anyway though, it would really suck if a COMMUNIST China, as it is now, grew to those proportions. Everyone would have something to worry about.

A few years ago America was again threatening to take the West to war against China over Taiwanese reunification (you might remember the US held that huge 'Joint Exercise' War Game in the area, basically to intimidate the Chinese) and related to this the US DoD ran ultra-sophisticated computer simulations to predict the likely outcome. Reportedly the result was a definitive victory for the Chinese. Depite checks and modifications, a repeat simulation produced a similar prediction

Since then American bluster against China has abated considerably, and the US has understandingly shifted its focus to much softer targets, like already-crippled Iraq etc

i'm wondering, did these simulations know what happens when a hydrogen bomb hits 4 million soldiers standing in line for a bowl of rice

If it were all out war, to the death kind of situation, the USA would not merely sit back and allow an invasion, sure maybe they could get hawaii, but the second they moved towards california, it would be over, no doubt in my mind

same thing if USA tried to invade China, it just wont happen

    Things are very simple.

Officially the US government doesn't "make war", they just intervene as a catalyst in order to promote democracy and long-term peace (e.g. Iraq and many ther examples)

If the above was the REAL reason for intervening, then they would do the same for Palestine.

Because they don't, we can understand that they promote what is "right" only when it serves their interest.

But then again, every country wants to serve its interest.

I believe that any country would do the same if it were in the place of the US (the only dominant nation).

You are right, China has considerable military power. The results that an army can accomplish are not solely dependent on the number of the soldiers. Other factors play a crucial role, such as the strategy, the equipment, the tactics etc.

Anyway, I meant that US is, by far, the most dominant nation, in financial terms. They can intervene to other nations' esoteric issues not only because of their military might. Most importantly, they have the financial means to achieve their goals through economic sanctions (e.g. embargos).

As far as China is concerned, in a few years (maybe 20?) they will have much more economic power. Will they act in the same way that the US does?

    Only time will tell...

Two of the 9/11 terrorists were making phone calls to al Qaeda members overseas. Maybe if the wire tapping (which isn't illegal, btw) and the Patriot Act were being done then as seriously as it is now, the 9/11 attacks could have been prevented.
