you mean the inefficient way of transferring engine power into forward movement?

I've never really understood the fascination.

After all if you want to burn rubber just put 300+hp in a ligthweight FWD platform.
Even MORE efficient at burning rubber

oh deaer, are we needing to have a reedirect to www.ultimatesmokepage.com ??

Anyway, as said, it's pointless as the first image proves
"Mummy look what I did with YOUR car last night" !!!!!!!

The second image shows how a car can USE it's tyres rather than just ABuse them ( and I'm betting those other drivers doing the same to themselves when "smokin rubber" )

Actually, the phrases are "burning rubber," "smoking the tires," or "burnout." And there is a whole website full of pictures doing so...

    I like these:

    Why?

I know chavs do burnouts at drive-through Burger King car parks because they are a massive bunch of twats.

Presumably muscle car fans do it for the same reasons?
    Thanks for all the fish

Coventrysucks, it'd be interesting to know what you thought of Fords from a design POV, especially the newer ones...

All it is is a display of clutch dumping, poor tyres and the laws of physics ( acceleration = Force over MASS ) .
Jeez, look at that chav's FWD

Now put it on a drag strip with proper Hoosiers and gripppy tarmac and THEN I might agree

Many of those cars have automatics; they can't dump the clutch (they can powerbrake, though).

As for tires, many of them are not "poor." I've seen cars with top-of-the-line, very wide tires still able to easily spin them. The torque those engines make is so tremendous, that no tire (except maybe racing slicks) is going to prevent wheelspin.

Friend who drag races is on his third box in as many years because of powerbrraking
