    I'm disgusted.

And yes, people need to stop the stereotypes about other culture's. I live less then a mile from the Canadian border and even i take offence to the stereotyping, plus im like 50% french canadian too.

It`s not as easy as that my friends...
It`s about keeping a balance in the aquaculture..
If seal hunting had stopped, it would create more problems in many regions around the world than you can imagien.. Regions that live of fishing industri.. that will starw and go bankrupt...

I personally don`t suport the seal-killing, but come from a country wich also have been criticised for killing seals... And over the time we have had alot of media focus on the issu in my country, and therfor I have som knowledge on the issu. And the ways they do this is truely despicable .. I agree! But you can`t generalise canadians, or norwegians for that sake for something like this...

As nerys say: every country have skeletons in the closet..
It`s not just seals that get killed in horrible ways...
Fox, minks and other fur animals also..
And no slaughter of animals are nice events!
It goes on at every local farm around you..
In every country in the wourld actually...
So everyone is going vegitarian now eh??

Uh, actually many US citizens sterotype ALASKA as igloos, huskies and what not.

This country is really devided b/c the north, south, and west all sterotype each other as yanks, rednecks, etc.

aussie is as big as half the US and we dont stereotype the west/east/north/south coast (except for inbred island dwelling tasmanians, but they dont count, theyre not people!)

I cant see that pic but im assuming its someone clubbing a seal? bullets are expensive and its not like you can have a seal farm now is it? if you can think of a better equally cheap way to kill em then put it up here!

otherwise; f**k em, theyre only seals.

I visited the PETA site a few months ago and I still have a bad taste in my mouth. Animals are sometimes destroyed for disease prevention, as in the bird and livestock cullings recently. However, the fur trade for some reason really torture animals. I don't know why this is, maybe to maximize profits or maybe the ease of removing the pelt from a live animals as opposed to the cold carcass of a dead one, but it is a very horrible business.

Americans destroy thousands of dogs, cats, and other abandoned pets. Australians regularly cull Kangaroos. African elephant culling is not a secret either. All these are sometimes considered necessary but the methods are pretty brutal.

50 cents to kill it quickly or kill it through blunt trauma for free? hmm i'll spend the 50 cents thanks its not like they can't breed them..hell we have farms for crocodiles that produce meat and skins.

i've seen the qualifications for an african elephant culling and i have my license to cull kangaroos. yes death is brutal, but being shot is not really that painful for the animal because the transferred energy short circuits the nervous system, essentially giving it a near painless death (i'm sure it experiences some pain). this the reason why the african rangers have to use such big calibre projectiles, even if the poachers get away with military stuff.

unwanted pets are a big problem in western societies because people don't understand that they are responsible for them. RSPCA puts down 21,000 dogs a year in Brisbane alone! feral dogs and cats are also a big problem with native fauna and agriculture.

i dont think this is a case of stereotyping, afterall nobody said all canadians do this, just that it happens. dont try and make it something it isnt.

I don't agree with the way they are killed, I think it should be done more humanely and instead of the carcasses left to rot, they should be turned into dog food or whatever. Its a shame to see an animal killed for just its pelt. The other issue is that quite often it is the younger seals slaughtered and not the older adults.
I see things from a bit more radical point of view. Exotic animals murder is a crime as big as murdering people. I believe that more than just forbid the pelts, people who have them new, should be investigated and arrested when possible to prove they bought it recently.
I saw images of this lovely animals being taken out of their skin while alive! I can't imagine a more hideous crime. Why perpetuate this s***. Why letting al those Paris Hiltons and such contribute happily to the continuation of this crimes?
I'm not a radical who believes that we shouldn't wear true skin or felt. Sure we can, if it's taken from the cows or pigs we create and kill with dignity to our survivance.
What really makes me completely mad is to see rare animals being savagedly killed, or worst, let to die without their skin.

I'm a peaceful person, but believe this: if I was somewhere and saw a guy doing taht to a seal, and had to choose between the life of one of them, the human was with no doubt going down.
Someone who is able to do such a horrid crime doesn't matter to the world, and is probably someone who could do that to another human if well paid.

And now, waht are they doing to fool people? They are usign persian cat skin too. This isn't speculation. It's true.
