Speaking about dumb car ads on the telly, as we recently have, anyone caught the new one for VW Touareg?

I've only seen it once but it consists of an in-car drive sequence with father & young son. As they waft along they're discussing safety aspects of the Veedub - the superior road-visibility provided by the high seating position, and not the least its exceptional crashworthyness etc. Yet through most of this extended conversation, Dad has his head turned and is looking directly to son .. but not at the roadway

To me this epitomises how cheaply sensationalist those 'mandated guidelines' for automotive adverts are, and how much our society has succumbed to the scourge of PC upon our lives

Because apparently the portrayal of a Holden ute doing circle work in a deserted paddock somewhere out in woop woop is perceived by our lawmakers to be highly irresponsible, an almost criminal incitement to dangerous anti-social behaviour behind the wheel. Yet it seems perfectly ok & no worries at all to depict motorists taking their eyes off the road for 5+ seconds at a time .. while sharing a public road in the burbs .. AND while touting 'safe' motoring to their child passenger!

    To me that's more than a double-standard - it's sheer hypocracy

I haven't seen it but I agree. The most annoying thing is the people Complain about sports cars ads promote bad driving. How are you meant to advertise a sports car with drawing attention to its sport car Attributes ie its speed or handing. Its probably the same people complaining evertime.

    Yep it's a wank of a ad.
And worst is that honda ad there trying too get it on in the front seat of the car. And the first one they did going for it with the kids in the back seat They almost went in and left them in the car.
But Holden and Ford get bagged for driving a car. They needed too take notes from honda now, Doo do nuts and hit the salt lakes while making out with chicks with kids in the back then it's all ok Or just have your son expelled

Holden/Ford = a quality educational display of controlled driving

Honda = incestuous 'keep it in the family' porno featuring graphic sex involving innocent minors and/or senior citizens

Its is actually, i was talking to fella who works for channel 9 and he said they have serial "complainists" who feel it is their mission in life to report any such ever so microscopic violence or sexism in an ad and have it banned. Usually its old or stay-at-home people who simply have nothing better to do with their house bound lives...

Ive also heard for most cases, ads have been pulled from less than 5 complaints. That idiot Harold Scruby's one of the worst offenders.

I don't go quite as far as Harold Scruby on many of the issues he raises (although imo his heart seems in the right place and I can see where he's coming from) but he's no idiot and often raises valid points of conjecture for discussion, which at the least does engender worthwhile debate on what are community issues

I admit to lodging a formal complaint at the ASB here in Canberra about a misleading and innacurate Toyota Tarago advert, which directly caused its removal. I even received what amounted to a written retraction from Toyota .. oh what a feeling!

Just saw a silver VE GTS... The thing has presence! And those rear lights look much better in real life. Wasn't ever to much of a fan of them in the pics

Pity you couldn't get it in your area, Slick. Was at the PC shop yesterday buying some bits and pieces for a mate when a lady walked in wanting to buy an Unwired modem. I quickly grabbed her, gave her my number and that afternoon she came over and bought mine off me for $60
