    Lost Acceleration

I have a 1996 Toyota RAV4 (manual transmission, 100+k miles). Over the last 3-4 weeks, it's seems to be burning oil, and also has lost acceleration. When I switch gears, and give it gas, I get normal rpm increase and it eventually accelerates, but very slowly compared to only a few weeks ago.

Any ideas of what could be causing this?

Has it been serviced normally (changing fluids etc.)?
    Is your clutch slipping?

Yeah, clutch or tranny problems are my guess as well

    Yes its serviced normally.
The clutch doesn't jerk or grab.
It acts similar to when its in neutral.

I've experienced an automatic transmission when the gear plates are worn out, I would say its similar to that except the automatic would never get above 20 miles an hour.

Yup. Looks like a slipping clutch. It's either worn out or, if you have an oil leak it could be pouring into the clutch causing slippage...

Just a suggestion, but maybe the Acclelerator Cable has become slightly slack?

Rear Main Seal? Front seal on the box? Worn Sandwich (clutch) plate, could be heaps of things... Is it burning oil or losing it? Any drips under the car? does it run ok, ie no knocks or rattles? Any noises from the driveline? does the clutch slip excessively when u lightly touch your foot on the pedal? In a higher gears, 4th or 5th, at highway speed, does it just rev out and not accelerate when you plant your foot?

I agree, had it once with one of my family cars, it was the cause. Good luck finding the problem..
