New Jag XK7 vs Maserati Quattroporte

I have a BMW 6 2004 (one of the first to receive it) and will be changing early next year. What do think of the Jag vs the Maser?

Depends on what you expect from your car.

Personally I'd prefer the Maserati. I don't care much for the looks of the Jag, and I love the way the Maserati sounds when being driven hard.

.. And I presume that you mean the XK8, not XK7

Assuming you mean the XK8, the Jag is a proper sports coupe, much more like the BMW you currently have. The Maserati is a big, luxurious saloon car, albeit with sporting abilities. I guess it depends how much you value the rear seats. The Jag's rear seats are verging on useless whereas the Maser's are big, spacious, comfortable seats.

I'd take the Maser, purely on the gorgeous looks and the extra space available.

The problem with the big Maser is that gearbox. You know very latin, full of testosterone and adreline, two big paddles swapping big cogs all very manly... and a bit rubbish. However everything else is full of character and it has that sense of occasion Germans can only dream of.

The new XK on the other hand is arguably a better car overall IMO (at least it has a proper gearbox) and it is quite a lot cheaper, but is suffers from nice but uninspiring styling. It's made out of aluminium which should help with the power deficit it has.

If money wasn't an issue I'd probably go for the Quattroporte despite the gearbox.

It's gotta be the XK. It's beautiful, and that noise, my god.

    Maserati Quattroporte?

I'd have thought that the Coupe would be more of a suitable replacement for a 6, and more of a direct competitor to the XK.

The Coupe might be quite a good car, but it is getting very long in the tooth as a model, and there may be a replacement due sometime soon - something to consider.

The XK is new, so there will probably be more of a waiting list.
    Thanks for all the fish

People also might want to wait until the Alfa Romeo 8C will see production, hopefully not skinned in the same way as they did to the Brera

Jaguar has some fantastic incentives on the out-going XK-Rs, $9,000. Negotiated right, you could drive away with more than $10k off MSRP. Only thing is it's the old shape but it is still a fantastic oppurtunity.

Always check edmunds.com for the incentive info before buying...
