    Bonneville 400

I did a quick search but didn't seem to find anything posted yet.

the Boneville 400 has been going for a few years with the aim of getting an F1 car to reach 400 km/h on salt flats. They didn't achieve it, but get very close. Here are some pictures of the modified F1 car (note the parachute and also the aircraft style rear wing)

And here is the link to the official web site.

Parachute? I see an exhaust plug, and the tail, and the LED tail light. But no 'chute (we need better emoticons...)

Wasnt that last yrs attempt? The car I saw at Bonneville on a website in the last 2 days was in complete FIA legal spec with proper rear wing, with a fair amount of angle too. Got to 220 mph I believe.

The Honda car IS this year's car, it is legal to FIA's spec despite the lack of rear wing(not mandated, but common sense prevail). The last attempt last week ends up averaging 397kph 2 ways.

They did break the 400 kmh top speed, but the two way average was the stated 397...

It must be a drag not to reach the goal given their current state in F1.

Have a read of this, according to this, the car isnt legal, as it used a 3L V10. Honda doesnt have a dispensation from the FIA to run a V10 this season, therefore, this car, assuming it is running the V10 of course, is not legal in respect to the rules.

It was legal but now isn't. When they started the project it was legal, I believe they were intedning on having it hit 400 in 2005-spec.

So in reality, anyone with some cash, and say a 1992 Mclaren or Williams with the old 3.5 L for argument sake, could take the record away as long as the car conforms to the rules that it was built under... assuming they beat the 400 k's
