yeah, ok...

As a fully paid up member of the earth destroying SUV ( although I choose to use the term 4 wheel drive) club I can see why people look at us (me) and think about how I am contributing to the total destruction of all they know and love. On the plus side our second car is a Mazda 121 which we use for general running around. If I could find an alternative for my V8 Landcruiser that would fit all our gear and tow our camper trailer and take us where we like to go whenever we get the chance would I? I don’t like the fact that our three or four day trips where we drive 3-5 hours to now costs double what it did a couple of years ago. So to save fuel I would love something cheaper and more economical. A 60lt Engel fridge doesn’t fit to well into the back of many cars and leave much room for anything else. Our trailer fully loaded with everything including 60-80 litres of water probably weighs around a tonne so we need to be able to drag that into wherever we go.
I cannot ever envisage not having a 4 wheel drive, it would change my life completely. Interestingly our kids have probably seen more of the environment since they were 2 years old than many of the typical greeny types I have seen and also love the places we go. I would assume as they grow older they will have a respect and a desire to protect it as well. I am also amused at the hypocrisy (albeit born of ignorance) that is displayed by way of some greenies smoke billowing unroadworthy pieces of crap they use for transport. Many of these are probably quite uneconomical for their given power and size and pollute probably more than all of my well maintained eight cylinders.
I would consider a diesel (Henk dies) Cruiser if they were not a $7-9000 premium too although a recent survey found the diesel Landcruiser to be the worst as far a pollution goes of all cars surveyed. Odd.

The versions I have been in so far had the engine configuration too. However when I checked at the models currently available here, I found that they offer a 4.1 V6 D4D engine. Might be too modern for Oz.Originally Posted by crisis
BTW, nice to see you make an extensive post again

Thanks. Even if it is my usual 4x4 rant?Originally Posted by henk4
I think the Landcruiser you are referring to is what we call a Prado which is the mid sized 4x4 as opposed to the big assed 100 series.

Read the post of yours that I quoted in post #22 then get back to me. The post I made in post #22 realates to what you said about MP. Not sure if your comment was sarcasitc or not but it seemed a fitting time to use that little quote from my friend.Originally Posted by blingbling

Well, I never claim to be a specialist on 4x4's but in this case the version sold over here is listed as the 100 series, fitted with a 4.2 litre V6 D-4D (4164 cc, bxs 94x100, 204 bhp at 3400 revs, 420 NM torque at 1200 (!!) revs.)Originally Posted by crisis

the second, the Prado/90 versions were never available over here. I have sat in many prados on my trips in Central Asia.
However the V6 configuration is currently mentioned by the current website of Autoweek (www.autoweek.nl). Double checking with the priceless 2006 catalogue of the Swiss Automobil Revue, (comes free for the Press during the Geneva Motorshow) reveals that they give the same engine size, but now producing 196 BHP and 431 NM at 1200 revs and being an inline six The Prado still has the old 4 cylinder 3 litre.
I lied therefore, but without knowing
