Oh yes, the petrol station near where I work is now charging £1.09 for diesel, 99p for petrol.
Why aren't the car magazine organising their readers into protest?

Why do you think it is the responsibility of car magazines to do that?Originally Posted by MrKipling

Gordon Brown doesn't need to win voters, he's parachuting straight into no.10, so he isn't going to cut tax, because we all know fossil fuels are evil, kill baby seals, cause cancer, war in the Middle East and encourages paedophilia, therefore no one should use any.
Anyway - they can't charge 100.0p at stations with only space for "XX.Xp" on their boards
Thanks for all the fish
How long has diesel been more expesive than petrol in the UK?
Unless its mainland Europe that is like this, but i thought you guys paid more for petrol?
I am the Stig
We do pay more for petrol than pretty much anyone else on the planet, but diesel has been more expensive than petrol for quite a long time I think (I haven't really been paying much attention to prices.)Originally Posted by fpv_gtho
It is mostly due to the fact that because diesels get better mpg than petrol, people buy less diesel. (I think the official line is something to do with it causing more pollution or something, the truth is they are trying to recover lost tax revenue).
The fact that diesel mpg's are so much better than petrol still means that, tank for tank, you still get more miles per £ with diesel.

I don't think it's their responsibilty per se, I just think they're in the best position to mobilise the troops - a bit of cross-publication discussions could have a big ol' protest in Whitehall organised no problem. They have a bit of authority and respect from their readers too, so they're (the drivers) much more likely to listen to them than another of the thousands of emails I get.Originally Posted by Coventrysucks
It's also in their interests to do so, it won't be long before people won't be able to afford petrol in England... a somewhat dubious legacy for a supposedly Socialist government.
I am... believe me.Originally Posted by Coventrysucks

I think oil companies are laughing in our face, every time the oil price rises, immediately they rises their products prices, but when the oil prices drop they never do the same, and if they reduce their prices is after two weeks of continuous oil price droping. And we can't do anything, just give then our money. They say that there are many companies and there is competetition between them but, anybody knows that they have secrets agreements to impose almost the same prices in every petrol station.
If I were rich I would make my own petrol company to sell diesel and petrol at cost price, without profit for me. However I'm shure that a week later I'll be killed in a tragic "accident"
Life is too short to stay, race!
Gora Euskadi! Visca Catalunya!
Diesel is way cheaper than petrol here. Petrol is now around an amazing 1,36€.
Damn!

Money can't buy you friends, but you do get a better class of enemy.
Royal Dutch Shell did announce a 36% increase in profits, but you can't really hold a grudge, since in the UK petrol and diesel prices are amongst the cheapest on the planet. Then the government adds the tax, and all of a sudden it goes to being amongst the highest.
Remember that the oil companies also have to power their refineries, plants, offices, petrol stations and fuel transporters, so it isn't in their interests to make fuel excessively expensive.

This is really ****ing me off now.
I need a car soon, I also need to pay for band practise, debts, anything and everything.
