Everytime I see 'Space age materials and engineering' in a press release, all I can think they mean is 'we haven't figured out exactly what we're gonna do with this, but we think it'll be pretty tops.'

I'm always amused that people think "space age" is actually "high tech", when the "space age" was mostly the 1950s, '60s and '70s.

True but would you rather them say "information age" materials? Although the space age has really ended, the materials and technology they use in the space exploration industry is certainly "high tech" so I think it still makes most people think it's high tech for that reason. But I totally agree with you "space age" is a bad term to use.
