Give a good driver a 2WD car in most instances would lap faster, the problem with 4WD cars including the GTR is their understeering nature and front heavy layout causing faster tire wear on both front wheels.
In cars with AWD systems like the GTR understeer becomes less of an issue, and placement of diffs and transfer cases affects weight balance.

2WD is better for drag racing as it allows for the wheels to slip a little, which is essential for a good launch.
