Currently, I think the maximum number of digits pi has been calculated to is 1.24 trillion. Why? Well I don't know why! There is no perfect circle in nature, and we will never need to make something so perfect as to need 1.24 trillion digits. It is however a good measure of current computing power.
Me, I remeber 3.14, or the button on my calculator.
The record for reciting pi is 83,431 digits by a 59-year-old Japanese psychiatric counselor. it took 13 hours.
