Believe me, save for a proper one. In these things its much better to get one from a big and renowned brand.(except iPod then )

I have a small 128MB Apacer from a couple of years ago.. Before I had my iPod I used to use it instead of taking my discman around for a short trip. It was ok really, I'm pretty picky with sound quality and I had no major quibbles... from memory. Top end distorts out as you'd expect, but you probably shouldn't listen to it that loud anyway. Nothing amazing, but not bad.

get a Sony or the new Creative Widescreen or you could just buy a phone with lots of memory/memory stick
