    Gas Prices

What's causing the latest drop in petroleum prices in Amerca? It was 80 something a barrel and now it's in the 60s (if I'm correct).

New deposits have been found, the switch to winter blend has been happening, stuff in the middle east has chilled out a little bit, US Strategic Petroleum Reserve is full again. Oh, and election day being next month doesn't hurt at all.

    I <3 $2.15/gal.

I'm curious if gas prices around the world have dropped recently too, or if it's just in the US?

Ours took a hike down from 99.9p a litre (roughly $1.80) to 84.9p a litre ($1.50). So we're paying $1.50 for just under two pints of petrol.

I was just thinking about how much of the cost of fuel is taxes. So I looked it up. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_tax, almost half (if not more) of the cost of a liter of fuel in Europe is tax. In the US, it's more like $.50 at most.

US fuel taxes > Euro fuel taxes.

In that 84.9p per litre... 20p is the actual cost of the fuel. The rest is 'tayax'.

Yes folks, about $1.10 is tax. Thank you, Tony. You absolute cock-sucker.

It's wonderful up here in Canada, I haven't seen gas prices this low since over 2 summers ago. Averaging 80-85 cents, but when I'm patient I've been filling up for 75 cents per liter.

    (Canadian prices)
