    DE Tomaso ??

At (The Quail) i see a De Tomaso Ghia.
I Search the web and found it as De Tomaso Shelby 1965.
Do you have any idea what is the deference, or it is the same car?

You don't like easy questions, do you? :P Because this one's a bit complicated.
At the Turin Motor Show in November 1965 De Tomaso showed a prototype of a Group 9 racecar, named Ghia-De Tomaso Sport 5000. The body was built by Fantuzzi, therefore the car is known also as De Tomaso Sport 5000 Fantuzzi Spyder 70P. The car was designed in 1963 by Pete Brock, who worked for Carroll Shelby and he planned it to be a De Tomaso-based replacement for Shelby Cobra. But the Shelby-De Tomaso marriage never came about and when Brock left his American boss, he took his designs with him to De Tomaso.
Ghia appears in the name of the car because they gave money necessary to complete the project.
The engine used was a 4.7 litre Ford V8 as available in various high performance Mustangs. This unit was then upgraded by DeTomaso: new light alloy cylinder heads, pistons and connecting rods were fitted and the output was a claimed 475 hp.
At the Turin Show the car attracted many visitors and gave its creators great expectations. Pete Brock was to become the sole dealer for the USA where he could offer the car for $ 13,000. He intended to make the car legal for the GT class, for which in 1966 it was rebodied: doors, turning lights, windscreen and a few other things had been fitted, and the fifty cars required for homologation was not considered a problem. However, despite great expectations the car didn't take part in any races nor were any further cars built.
Now we come to our car. The original bodywork (removed in 1966 to meet the GT class homologation requirements) was salvaged lately from the bankrupt factory and used on another car. That's the vehicle that we see above. I believe it belongs to Philippe Olczyk (VDV Grant) from Brussels and is currently for sale: http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/find...lCarID=1719179

The real showcar, still fitted with the 1966 bodywork, looks like this:

It's not denial. I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

The P70 that Olczyk brought to the Quail Lodge last year is now for sale at Paul van der Grant in Belgium.

welcome to UCP. Is there a chance that we have seen you and/or your cars in action during some historic races?
