They had one until 2011 says Wiki. A 4L CDI introduced mid-double oh's.

I got 10.5 today, doing about 250 kms I think.

I remember when I did a lot of driving, running parts for an auto parts chain. Drove E250s with 4,6l V8s, usually got 16-17mpg.
An it harm none, do as ye will

That is pretty shitty for a diesel. Is that all stop/start city driving and street racing down Bloor? That's the only explanation I can think of.
I know people who (claim to) get about that mileage from their big diesel pickups, when unladen. I'm pretty sure that the Yurps' engines should be getting better mileage than a Duramax, Powerstroke, or Cummins gets, especially in a more aerodynamic and marginally lighter vegicle..
"Kimi, can you improve on your [race] finish?"
"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"

Not so much Bloor, but it's a mix of highway and city. I idle it a lot too while waiting to pick up customers. Also throw in some more harsh driving when I am alone in it, sometimes 4 people in it, so it is ~5200 lb odd curb, say 6000 laden.

I may start trying to drive more reasonably and turning the engine off whenever I stop immediately. The fact that it is solidly double digits in C also is bound to help.

    City driving kills fuel consumption.

The A220 CDI does about 7-8l/100km (29-34mpg US), which is bad.

Well, it's not really a sound, is it?

I don't care how you call it, I am still curious about the word "better"

Well, it's an Alfa Romeo with the 3.2 litre Busso V6 with an "open" exhaust.

If this isn't the definition of better (than a diesel), I don't know what is.

better is subjective...you cannot define it by just producing another "sound" and then say that it is better. Better is in the mind of the listener. I assume that a 1000 km trip with an exhaust sound like that is quite tiring, at least it would be for me.

Oh come on Pieter! It's an Alfa, it doesn't have faults; it has character!

are you deliberately trying to avoid the discussion on the merits of the word "better"?

    Nope.

What I trying to say is that everybody knows that it is a fact that an Alfa sounds better than a diesel.

I don't there's any need for any further explanation on that front.

    Is there?

It's an Alfa, it doesn't do science and maths.
