That is EXAXTLY what I initally thought. Wouldn't it be sick if that was an car actually had two jet entines on top of it? Hahahah.
I initally had skepticism like drakkie, but it seems as though you guys have offered proof enough that this was the real deal, in which case, power be to the Touareg.

And the one the guy pulled was about 30 tons heavier too.

The guy was about the size of a Touareg.

this isnt really that impressive, i mean the plane has perfectly funtional wheels, and thus will roll when pulled, big suprise here. Im pretty sure that my jeep could pull that plane if i had that rediculously huge tow hitch....any one up for stealing a plane?

Someone explain the concept of friction and getting something that heavy moving to this guy.

It's still impressive, I'd like to see GM put a hummer up to this test and watch as it blows up trying, or most other SUV's for that matter. It at the very least shows that the TDI Taureg is a durable SUV and not just some fluffy soccer-mom car.

Nobody who buys one is going to be hauling any more than a grande low-fat cappucino and a couple of whiny-ass kids anyways.

You make a good point. This definitely might help sell it to that market.

Snap LandQuail, burn on VW. Won't Quiggs now go nuts and start proclaiming the 1.8T the most excellent of all engines? I mean, they should put it in a Touraeg and then tow that 747 - if it doesn't take off, I'll be damned!

I'm just not sure exactly what the test shows us about the Toüareg. It's sort of like saying the Tooregg's bodywork, if hammered into a thin wire, would encircle the earth .0045 times. Sure, it pulled the airplane, but what was the rolling resistance? How quickly did it accellerate it? What was the question again?

I'm no physicist, and I klepped out of that ugly ****er in College somehow, but I vaguely remember long formulae complete with Newton-metres and seconds per second per second per second and such.

It all hinges on the initial resistance. If the 747 was sitting on "perfect" wheels, you could pull the thing with a Fischer-Price Big Wheel.

If they want to prove something about the Tongueg's pulling power, VW needs to take one to a "run what ya brung" tractor pull somewhere in Alabama, and let it square off against the X5, G55 AMG, and assorted other burly minivans with dubious heritages.

Then you'd have a proper experiment, rather than a parlor trick.
