Is this the Monaro that should be used in Australian Nations Cup Racing?

This is the Vauxhall Monaro that will be run by Emotional Engineering (http://www.emotional-engineering.co.uk/) in the British GT Championship. Driver will be Aaron Slight. The will run in the GT-N class and will use a modified version of the 5.7 litre Gen 3 engine which is fitted to the Monaro road car. It will produce about 550 bhp, and will run with a Holinger sequential gearbox and an aero package similar to the Garry Rogers Motorsport built Monaros. The car is due to make its debut in the second round of the championship at Mondollo Park in early May.

Perhaps this is the specification that the Nations Cup Monaros should compete with? Might reduce the controversy about them a bit.

Either way, it will be interesting to see how the team, driver and car does.

both engines still make around 550hp though, thats where all the controversy lies, although there would be less as theyre achieving it from the original 5.7L engine rather than the 7.L motorsport engine. got any torque figures?

Not from what I've seen on any website or in Motorsport News. My guess is it would be lower. Also, I'm assuming the engine 5.7 litre doesn't use any restrictors. Its the restrictors that lower the power of the 7.0 litre engine. The 550 bhp is similar to that of the Moslers, which also use the 5.7 litre engine. And the Lamborghini Diablo and Ferrari 550 would have a bit less power, but they're lighter. Keep in mind that the British GT Monaro has been substantially altered from the Australian Nations Cup cars, so that it now complies with the British GT-N rules (which I understand differ from the FIA GT-N rules, just to confuse things). That was one of the problems for the GRM Monaros - they don't comply with the rules of any other championship.

The Pontiac GTO used in the SCCA Speed World Challenge series would be another option. That car produces about 450 bhp from the 5.7 litre engine.
So, there's two options for Procar to look at which could keep the Monaro and reduce the controversy a little.

well looking back at the 420kw HRTC that first got the monaro's into Nations cup, they had 560hp in concept trim, and all holden said was that a street version was going to be 350kw or 470hp, so the nations cup monaro's you would think would be somewhere in the middle there.

Why not build a road going version first and then let the teams blue prient the engines like everyone else?......

there would certainly be a bigger business case if the decision was to make a handfull of the Monaro's with the extra kit, say 50 here, 100 for Europe and 200 for the US

Well focus on our raceing first rather then leave the pos the way it is...its no direct threat to the championship but now its not even owned by the manufactuor (GRM) either do something about it or make it race in super sedan!

well i think america would appreciate a race tuned version....those who like the gto seem to be going ga ga over it (whilst those who hade it cant shut up about how much they hate it) and theyve already almost got the convertible monaro off the ground, so the same might happen to the hipo version

well sadly, the ford crown victoria isnt finding many private buyers at all, even the cops are reluctant to buy them but for a RWD V8 they dont really have any other choice unless they want to shell out more for the CTS

Well also they need more road feel (fiarly floaty feeling) and there are millions of other gripes about them...mostly only niggles....but rember wheels are singing their praises right now but unless they make big changes every revision in 3 or 4 years they will be ordinary and showing their age....
