Well, yes Daewoo was then bought by Chevrolet, but that has become quite a farce if you ask me. And now the chinese are building it too, pity.... In 1993 it was a good design for a small car, but I'm glad FIAT build their own Cinquecento.

The chinese version is actually a direct rip off. Chinese manufacturers bought a Matiz, scrap the whole thing, and went looking for suppliers. When GM filed their suit against Cherry, GM spokesperson did a demonstration by fitting a door from QQ to Spark, IT FITS. bummer. (That's what i read from car mags, dunno whether it really happends. )

oh, the suit wasn't successful, because Cherry did not use the same name for the product. OMG

It's not illegal for the chinese to copy a car they sell on their homemarket, but when they try to export it, that's where the problems begin. They actually tried to export a copy of the Smart, I just read it a week ago.

The car was called Italdesign Lucciola and it wasn't a Cinquecento concept. The Cinquecento was designed at the end of 1980s, basing on the Lancia Y and it went into production in 1993. So it would be a bit too late for Giugiaro to propose it's design in 1993 However, it's true that this car was a proposition for FIAT and, when FIAT refused it, the Koreans bought it.

Pretty much the same as between, let's say, a Punto and a Grande Punto or a Bravo and a Stilo. Seicento is the next generation of the Cinquecento.

Most of the Cinquecentos, Seicentos and Matizes (as well as Pandas) sold in Europe have been produced in Poland and they're the most popular cars on polish roads.

what i can add is that the prototype of the matiz under korean badge had a name d'artz and was going to be avant-guarde citycar of higher class, but as of course no european would buy a daweoo with a price of merc a-class, they made cheap crap instead

Well I think that the Cinquecento and the Seicento use the same runing gear, and do share some body panels as well. That's not the case with the other Fiats you mentioned. So despite the new name the Seicento is in fact a facelift (update, if you want) of the Cinquencento.

EDIT I've checked and you were right, the Seciento was the replacement of the Cinquencento, altough it borrowed very heavily from the older car.

Actually the Cinquecento and Seicento not only share the same running gear
but also the whole floorpan and most components that's not outer bodypanels, so a whole new model it's not! Nothing like the examples you claim!!!

Just for the record, it's the new Panda you mean, not the old Panda...
