I have to admit, the Mazda 787B has really grown on me the few past months. I was suprised to actually find out that it was rotary powered, and it beat the Sauber Mercedes at LeMans. I am just wondering what your thought on it are.

My thought is, that it's a freakin' ledgend. And that the MXR-01 that replaced it looks even cooler, but, alas, couldn't deliver. Oh, and I think it's cool that it's N/A.

I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.
The first and only Japanese car to win Le Mans?
I am the Stig
Ferrari Constructors Champions 2007
The first and only Rotary to win at Le Mans perhaps?

Also the "most reliable finisher" engine raced in Le Mans too
[excluding the one year, 3 car Honda entry !]

Didn't two of them drop out, and one finished 2nd in class?Originally Posted by Matra et Alpine

The fastest Honda was still beaten by the Alpine A610 entered -- by 15 laps !!!!

No, I was thinking about 1995, when 2 of the Hondas in GT1 failed and the remaining one in GT2 won.Originally Posted by Matra et Alpine

You're actually pretty close to the truth, in a way, sort of. Rotaries were banned by the FIA after it won as they said that rotaries had a significant weight advantage. Which is a shame, as they could've just worked out an equivalency formula for them, and Mazda could've continued to work at the engine and we may have had better rotaries than we do now. Pity.Originally Posted by P4g4nite

When you put it like that, it is a pity.

Considering the engineering effort that went into the Renesis, i dont think we got that much of a raw deal.
Yeah but if they made it heavier to be fair with the power/weight thing it would still have sucked with the fuel efficiency and the would have canned it anyway.Originally Posted by 2ndclass
