2007 Formula One United States Grand Prix

The F1 circus was back to the daily grind today in Indianapolis, just days after the thrills and spills of the Canadian GP past Sunday. The busiest man on the track in the first practice session was 19 year old Sebastien Vettel, standing in for Robert Kubica in the BMW, who has been ordered to sit out this race by the FIA's medical team after his horror smash in Montreal. Vettel certainly impressed by taking P4, beaten only by the two McLarens and BMW teammate Heidfeld.

Fernando Alonso dispelled the talk of Indy being his bogey track with a comfortable first place ahead of Heidfeld, and then Lewis Hamilton. The Ferrari's are still looking a little bit off the pace of the McLarens and BMWs, just as they were last weekend.

The races might not be very interesting, but what will be interesting is to see for how long the McLaren team resists until exploding into a big mess.
Lack of charisma can be fatal.

I beg to pardon. Last week's race was excellent.

Interesting to see BMW up there with the McLarens. It may only be time and a bit of good luck until they reach the first step of the podium - hell it could even be this weekend.

Still, you have to reckon that it's the exception, not the rule.

I do reckon that Ferrer, but I am always drawn back hoping that the race will be exciting. Last weekend's race reminded me in terms of chaos and confusion of Hungary last year... now that was a good race.

Ferrari have won every race at this venue...it will be very telling if they get bested this round.

    EDIT: Hakkinen won in 2001.

McLaren continue to show their class in Indianapolis as they topped the timesheets in second practice. World Champion Fernando Alonso beat his teammate to the top spot by the odd tenth after what was a busier second session. Ferrari showed an improvement with Massa and Raikkonen taking P3 and P4, edging slightly ahead of BMW who seemed to be concentrating on their long-run pace on the harder tyres. Mark Webber's nightmare season continued in the same vein as before as he had to park his Red Bull out on the track with yet more reliability headaches.

    Practice Two Times

    01 F. Alonso McLaren 1:12.156 35 laps
    02 L. Hamilton McLaren 1:12.309 34 laps
    03 F. Massa Ferrari 1:12.435 36 laps
    04 K. Räikkönen Ferrari 1:12.587 38 laps
    05 N. Heidfeld BMW 1:13.026 43 laps
    06 D. Coulthard Red Bull 1:13.042 41 laps
    07 N. Rosberg Williams 1:13.057 35 laps
    08 H. Kovalainen Renault 1:13.110 48 laps
    09 R. Barrichello Honda 1:13.144 40 laps
    10 J. Button Honda 1:13.202 46 laps
    11 S. Vettel BMW 1:13.217 50 laps
    12 M. Webber Red Bull 1:13.263 21 laps

For how long will Alonso and Hamilton remain calm and nice to each other?

    (Not long in my opinion)

Alonso's already bitching about "unfair treatment"

So was Hamilton after Montecarlo I think. I think that's going to be more interesting than the actual races...

Really? Lewis is a whiner too? Shame. Do you have any links?

The new red on the Ferrari looks rather good, nice highlights.
