Yah the Evo 9 is my first choice but I am a little hesitant because the Evo X is just 15mths from being released in OZ and it will push the price of the Evo 9's down. I don't mind losing $ on cars but trying to reduce the amount to lose.

I haven't tried the VW R32 but I have heard many people say the GTI feels quicker?? dunno but anyway not my style. I admit I am a Turbo man. Never owned a non turbo car.

I was also thinking of a Evo 8 MR .. they are quite cheap at approx 35-40k AUD and apparently more power then an Evo 9..

Anyway have to sell my car first or try and get a decent trade in.

    Thanks guys for your help.

Go Subaru. The EVOs are a great series, but the STi is (relatively) more usable and grown-up (if you can call a car with yellow wheels grown-up.)

Also, they seem to be more robust. I've covered 50,000 miles in mine, including more trips to the local dragway than were strictly necessary. The drivetrain and engine have held up very, very well. (I've seen two EVOs packed away on trailers at the local 'strip with blown transmissions.) It's been a good car, and I'll drive it until the wheels fall off.

Of course, the EVO handles better, but has a somewhat less appealing image, thanks to 3-Fast 3 Furious and all that tired, endless bullshit.

Basically: the STi says "I wish the WRC still came on TV," while the EVO says "I've got a bunch of Japanese porn cartoons on my iMac."

Of the three or four EVOs in my town, one drove around for around a month before re-appearing in its owner's driveway shorn of both bumpers and its wing. The kid drove it like that for about another month before apparently swapping it for a Mustang GT.

Another — and this is my favorite — I first saw back in July, in the middle of a heatwave. Here it was, only 105-****ing-degrees fahrenheit, and this bright red EVO VIII is sitting on four brand-new Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires. I left the owner a note asking what kind of tires he was running, just for jollies, and he later called me to explain how the dealership had sold him the Blizzaks as "just upgrade tires."

These two don't speak highly for EVO drivers in central Arkansas, though I don't know if the trend continues worldwide.

Of course, they both are fantastic cars, and within a whisker of each other in nearly every measurable way. I'd say the Mitsubishi has the better chassis, but the Subaru's engine and drivetrain get the nod, in my book.

All lies aside, however, I'd keep the GTR or look for a good second-hand M3.
    I'm erudite ;-)

Yeah, I gave it to the wife to drive around. I'm driving an XR6T daily, looking to get rid of it in a few months time, maybe get an Audi S3 or similar.

    I'd recommend the Evo.

My mate has an Evo 8 with minor mods and is pushing 190kw @ the wheels and mid 12s. It's a real weapon, but dunno how effective it would be as a family car

How about a Subaru Forrester STi, its got the Impreza Sti engine in a big estate car. The only problem is the looks.

LandQuail: Actually in OZ the Evo comes with 10 yr Manufacturer Warantty. The reason why I kind of swinging towards the Evo is because they are rarer here. So many STI's in OZ. Also I started of with a Subaru WRX then to a RX7 S6 then to the GTR so thought I might try Mitsubishi.

HootHoot: The Forester STI, I believe are called the STB. Not many come in Manual. I have driven one .. its quick but around corners you get reminded it isn't an STI.

DrGonzo: Let me know before you buy your Audi. A friend just bought a RS4 and another a A3 so might be able to get you a cheaper deal.

Blue Supra: A friend is selling one of 2 Nismo S15 (Bought from Nissan) so has Manufacturer Warantty, comes with $25k of Nismo gear but honestly I have had a short journey in the back seat .. and never again .. no room!!
