BMW developed the V12 for the mclaren F1 and F1 cars so im sure they had capabilities. The latest V12 in the current 7 series is still about 75hp/litre.Originally Posted by cmcpokey

Well as Sam said is a ten year older engine. Furthermore it only has 2-valve per cylinder and it's not very sophisticated. It was BMW's first attempt at making a production V12 engine. Things have imporved since.Originally Posted by speedy_2

That's because, like I said, the 7 Series have always been more problem-proned than the rest. The 5s are in between though.Originally Posted by Waugh-terfall

Are you sure about that, I'd be suprised if a V12 uses a timing belt, or for that matter a belt driven fan. Especially from a 2004 BMW, all of their I6s use timing chains iirc, so why would this be any different?Originally Posted by Waugh-terfall

Good luck with it
I gotta say though after reading those horror stories you may well need it. The competing Benz W126 might not fit the required image as fittingly as a BMW V12, but they're a thoroughly engineered lux-euro that has a way-better ownership reputation

(a quick search revealed the above cars which from a far-away guess might possibly be within missile-firing range of your locale)
When you've seen one double-row timing belt you've seen 'em all...Originally Posted by h00t_h00t
