    Knee Problem

Guys, I went snowboarding today and I took a nose dive into powder and the momentum threw me sideways and I twisted my knee and I don't know what is wrong. My knee hurts like crazy every time I move it and I'm having problems sitting and standing, but if i sit then the pain goes away if I don't move and same goes for standing. I think I pulled my MCL but aren't sure. I also didn't hear a pop when it happened. Does anybody know what I did to my knee without going to the doctors? Thanks in Advance

Can't REALLY tell from over the internet of course, but I was in a very similar situation 2 years back, I tore my ACL clean off after a bad mountain biking stack. Has your knee swollen up at all? If so, it means you have torn something, in which case you definitely must stop moving it and standing on it. If the pain is still there tomorrow, go to the doctor's, if you're still unable to stand on it after a week, see a knee specialist.
It took me a month to get into surgery when I really needed it within 2 weeks, 1 week later and it would've been in-operable. Make sure you stay on top of the condition and be wary.

sheez, man, hard luck ... but for god's sake get to a doctors quick and get it looked at.
If you delay treatment and there IS a tear then you risk long-term damage.

Can I ask the question why you didn't go to an ER eimmediately and get it scanned ?

Because real men don't go to the doctor; they take the pain.

It's not worth going to the doctor until you can't.

    erm .... NOTHING !

Good point, different health systems. So how much DOES it cost to visit an emergencey room and get x-ray, scan and doctor consultation ? WHat if it requires referral to specialist ??

sounds like a meniscus tear to me, I tore my medial meniscus last year from long jumping. It's easy to tear one if your knee is under load and your lower leg twists but your upper leg doesn't. It also liked to pop a lot for a few months after. I went to the doctor and they pulled some fluid out (it swelled up), gave me a nice brace, and some physical therapy.

Yeah it swelled up during my sleep last night, but its now I can move it more freely with minor pains. I'll probably go to the doctors tomorrow if it gets worst, but if it doesn't then I'll just leave it alone.
