    Holden developing V12 for Cadillac

Cadillac to build V12 sedan based on Sixteen concept

    Words courtesy of LeftLaneNews
General Motors product boss Robert Lutz has confirmed plans to build a V12 sedan, likely based on the popular Cadillac Sixteen coupe car. The luxury sedan will compete with the Mercedes S-Class and Lexus LS, according to Lutz.

Mr. Lutz said in an interview while visiting England that development is underway by Holden in Australia for the new V12 powerplant that will be used in the range-topping model.

The new V12 is essentially two 60-degree 3.6-liter V6 engines mated to a common crankshaft, according to AutoWeek magazine. Like the 1000 hp V16 Sixteen concept, the V12 Caddy will feature direct injection, cylinder deactivation, and an advanced automatic gearbox to provide reasonable fuel economy and efficiency.

Holden has reportedly built early test mule prototypes on its rear-wheel-drive Zeta platform, which underpins the new Chevy Camaro and Pontiac G8. However, the chassis might only serve as a test bed for the engine.

The engine will have 7.2 liters of displacement with 600 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque. It's not known if GM plans to offer lesser versions of the sedan with V8 powerplants, as Mercedes does with its S-Class. In 2003, Lutz said he wanted to develop a Cadillac luxury sedan with three models: V8, a high-performance V8 and a V12.
Two Alloytechs fused together? Sounds like fun It's good to see Holden getting more and more international projects from GM.

It's actually a 7.3-litre and it has 600bhp as standard and 650bhp in Clubsport form.

And it only started out with only 400, then went to 550hp.

And I'd love to see one in a GTS. However, I think it'd make it too heavy. However, a V12 Grange...hmmm...!!!!

How much does a Pagani engine cost?

I remember hearing about this in an interview with Mike Simcoe. It was a while back, and he said it was a personal dream, not something that was seriously being thought of. He basically said that he would love to have an ultimate flagship, built off the WM, and two Alloytecs fused together.

Well, it appears the dream may have materialized.

That is a n00b argument. This is a luxury saloon, the Pagani is a 'Hypercar'. The Caddy's engine will be designed for refinement, which means it'll be relaxed (i.e not having to rev much to deliver torque)...the Pagani - just listen to it!

The Holden engineers are going to have their work cut out then

It should be alright actually, V12's are much more naturally balanced than V6's, up there with boxer's and straight 6's, so that'll fix most of the problems.

I think if you were going to cut and shut one into a production Holden though, you may as well do a mid engine conversion on a ute, as i doubt theres the engine bay space in a sedan. The new ones cant fit the battery up there remember
