Well the RS6 has been feeling pretty sluggish off the line, had them check for error codes when the 24k mile service was done last week, found nothing. Perplexed by this problem my father posted threads on audiworld asking what could be wrong, and was replied to with things like "my turbos went bad and I had to replace both" or "i had to get the whole wiring redone". Well It's still got 4 years and 50,000miles of warranty left, so no big deal.
Yesterday we did a little jaunt out into the country (yours truly got up to 115mph. ) Twisty roads + 450 (so we thought)* horsepower + paddle shifting = fun.
*: we later did a calculation taking into account two passengers, 6.05 seconds 0-60, and the kerb weight of the car plus 10 gallons of gas, and found roughly 75-100 horsepower missing.
So after we made it back to the highway (relatively no traffic) we did a few 0-60 tests. It felt quick but not as "scary fast" as everyone had been saying the RS6 would be. The numbers didn't lie. 6.2, 6.3 and 6.05 seconds for our three tries. What could be causing this problem? It felt like the turbos weren't getting enough air in the low RPM's but above about 3,000 they felt fine.
So playing around under the hood today, my dad noticed you could see completely down the air intake on the driver's side, but that there was something blocking the passenger side air intake.
We undid the hosing to find this:
as you can see here, it was competely filling the air intake pipes:
What is it, you ask? It's a mouse nest. The car only had roughly 4,250 miles put on it every year for the last 4 years, and thus sat for most of the week, to be used on the weekends. A mouse, who apparently enjoyed the warmth of the Pennsylvania garage where this car spent it's first 4 years of glory, had built up a little nest out of whatever he could find.
Sometimes what seems like a complex problem is just a simple mammal.
