You can't have it all.

I saw a story earlier today, where a man was condemned for "saving the environment".

He bought a large area of rainforest so that it could not be logged. Now 1,000 workers who had very little to begin with have even less because they have no jobs, and there is no other industry in the area to support that many workers.

So for the sake of a few trees someone's kids are going to go hungry.

It is all very well for you to sit in your ivory tower, your every need met, your only worry being whether you are emo enough or something, and complain about people "not giving a crap".

The people who are inevitably hit the hardest by "conservation" are the people in the world who have nothing at all.

Why don't you ship yourself off in your Nike Air Max, GAP cargo pants and "My Chemical Flatulence" T-shirt to some remote region and explain to people who probably work a life time for less money than your "Ipod" cost why they should loose their jobs and why their children should starve because otherwise some obscure species of fish might die off?

I'm sure once you do that they'll willingly sacrifice their livelihoods so that you can feel all warm and smug about how you've saved the world.

Even when, as in this case, people are doing a lot of damage for seemingly no benefit; what are all these shark fishermen going to do instead?

It's sad - but as long as I'm not a politician I can say it: the earth is overpopulated if 90% of the population died the remaining 10% would be better of. Besides the "conservation" you talk about create jobs too. You're saying because someone is poor they should be allowed to keep burning jungle and hunting endangered species? Then what? After a few generations the same tribes would be living in the ashes with nothing left to hunt.

The fact that we're having the coldest winter and spring I can remember coupled with it snowing on Al Gore and Cheryl Crow's Global Warming awareness concert in Dallas, in APRIL. (one of like 4 times in history or something like that) make me chuckle a bit, yes.

I think we need to lower our impact on the earth, but not under the false pretense of Global Warming, and not necessarily by getting rid of cars, since the earth itself produces 30x as much CO2 as humans do. Things like polluting water and littering, careless waste of paper and things like that need to be checked but global warming still seems a bit silly.

Global climate change. Just because it is cold and rainy here today doesn't mean that locally this year has all potential to be the warmest one in over a century.

Yes, well in my opinion the term global climate change is as good since global warming brings a lot of fringe effects with it. The climate will become significantly colder in some parts and many parts will be affected changed weather conditions and phenomena both big and small. Global warming = global climate change.
