    New LSX engine

The newest chevy small block, the LSX, was just released in Reggie Jackson's 69 camaro and recently went on public sale I believe. This thing is truly amazing, potential displacement of up to 510 c.i. In his car it's a 454 and puts out 640 hp and 611 ft-lbs, naturally aspirated.

But the most exciting thing about this engine, for me at least, is that the MSRP is only $2500 and the street price is around $1900. Compare that to the LS7 which costs around 17000 for a finished engine, over 5000 for a bare block, and you can see this is quite the engine. It won't have the same light weight of the LS7 of course, but in the right car it should be a monster.

    $2500 isn't like very cheap?

Well it would be if you compare it to the price of the LS7.

But isn't it cheap in general too?

To be honest I don't know pretty much anything about engine prices...

On a side not this is a pic of the new LS3 that will be in the 2008 C6 courtesy of some dude at Nashville corvette club. Turns out 2 2008 coups, 1 vert, and the new Z06 went for a cross country trip for testing, blew a tire and the club was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the engine cover.

Yes it is, but if you wanted to buy it in Europe it would be 2-3 times the price and it would lack all of the ancillarys.

Geez, $2500, that's pretty damn good. Do Ford or Chrysler/Dodge still sell a crate big-block?

I wonder what you get for your $2500? An iron short-block yes, but what spec of crank, rods, pistons etc?

So I spose you could put it in LS7 spec pistons and bottom end.

Actually. after re-reading the spec-list it doesn't sound like you get crank, rods, pistons etc with it.

Its only good for a doorstop without the hundreds of missing internal parts.

It's an interesting deal, but I think I'll just go to the junkyard when I need a V8, which I hope to need soon.

To answer some questions... its $1900 for the block, MSRP is $2500, but no one pays that anyway.

I'm not sure. But the LSX is a small block.

$1900 is not alot for an engine with this much potential, sure it lacks internals, but has the capacity to be a tremendously powerful engine, and more importantly, it's an SBC, meaning there are about 5 trillion aftermarket parts available for it.

Basically. But strip my '91 camaro, a few suspension upgrades and an LSX, jyard t56 tranny, and you end up with something extremely powerful, very light, and fairly well balanced...

Really? I thought the 427 LS7 was the biggest small block at the moment.

Except for the dirty big slug of iron in the nose, or can you get an alloy block?
