Is it just me or the car looks like it's in pretty bad shape?

I know, I was talking about the fact the time capsule has a lot of water in it... these cars were largely made of steel.

Well after 50 years it isn't that suprising...

Hypothesis... look at how much water there is in the time capsule. I think it's obvious the under body of the car suffered. I maybe mistaken though, but that's what I think so far.

TULSA, Okla. -- Workers unearthing the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere buried under the city's courthouse lawn were dealt an early setback Wednesday, as several feet of water were found in its concrete vault.

The car, buried in 1957 to celebrate Oklahoma's 50 years of statehood, is set to be lifted out of the 12-foot-by-20-foot vault Friday morning to commemorate the state's centennial year.

It was buried in a protective plastic coating, but the condition of the Belvedere is unknown.

Excavators found water halfway up on the car's fenders and more evidence water could have been to the top of the vault at one point, said Art Couch, who is heading up the unearthing project.

"I don't know how bad it is, but it's not good," Couch said. "We were hoping it would be dry in there."

The vault was opened Wednesday to allow hazmat teams a chance to inspect inside.

"The concrete must not have been as good as we hoped it was," Couch said. "It had some failures over the years; the concrete didn't hold."

Water halfway up on the fenders? That doesn't sound too good.
It is possible the plastic preserved it.

What they should have done was store the car above ground, maybe in some kind of sealed building. It would be in a lot better condition then. Too late now, I guess.

Kind of ironic that it will be uncovered on Friday... that's also the airing of the last episode of "The Price Is Right" with Bob Barker as host... a show which gave away hundreds of cars.

I think there will be more than that left!
50 years isn't that long... maybe if it was 200 years you may be accurate.
