    How many weekend Racers

    Just curious

    • Do you race ?
    • What do you race ?
    • Where do you race ?

I seem to have noticed interest in motorsport is decreasing where I live; is this mirrored where you are.

    - Yeah, I do race...not really a pro though
    - Kartracing mostly, and sometimes RC cars racing
    - On kartracing tracks in Groningen and Assen in Holland

I don't notice a decreasing interest, more of the opposite actually. I do kartracing for about 5 years now, and it's getting more and more crowded on the tracks every year.

-Yes i race Constantly.....im an amateur though
-My brick aka the volvo, and my fathers cobra
-i race weekend races at road america and i autocross

Racing is in decline here, some racing, but its all focusing around street racing and what not with those panzy ass little ricers. I tend to ignore them, especially in my dads car, unless im in a mood to break someones spirit. Anyways, there are a few guys my age (18) that still enjoy real racing, even calssic car racing

    i like to race.
i race at a couple different tracks in colo and wyo
i also like street racing. Not on downtown streets, here where i live, we have alot of back roads outside of town and we all go out there and do quarter mile track racing the old fashion way........hotwheels of turborides

    I race, rally, trackday.
As regular as I can find the time.

Pics and event write ups for the big stuff usually end up here on UCP

It's growing here in the UK.
I take some of the 'blame' as I keep telling kids to not do it on roads and when they complain I take them along to events and get them interested
Mates son just completed his MSA racing license last month.
Another one is starting it over the winter - doing the MSA theory test ready for track in Spring - assumign we get his car built for him.
Also, just THIS weekend intriduced 5 new people to post-historic rallying in the forests and roads of Scotland and ALL of them are coming back for more and 3 of them are definately taking up driving for next event.

And there are hundreds of guys like me within 50 miles of our local track. All getting MORE and MORE folks interested. We've had 3 new tracks open to the public for racing and trackdays in the last couple of years in Scotland alone ( populatoin 5M !! )

Sad to hear it's dropping in your area. have you tried to find out why and see if it can be countered ?

The dropping of racing fan's in our area, just has to do with money. period....The elder's whom are on our city council's and commish's, feel that there is not enough proof that racing is justified to have it's own track. So we (the racers) take it to the back streets. I have gone to several town meetings trying to get them to open up 1 lane at our local airport, say on a saturday, and charge people 25 u.s. to race and charge fan's, 5 u.s. to watch.........i think they would make a killing, but they say no no no.............so i am not sure what the answer is here..........hotwheels of turborides

oh, i also think that is kewl as all hell that you are getting other's to see the good in racing legally....that is one thing i currently try to teach my own son......if you are gonna race, don't do it in town on busy streets......try to take the time and go to a sanctioned track..........hotwheels
