i wasn't sure how expensive it would be, that's why i said I would imagine. lotus just seems an expensive car to maintain for the avg joe.

... or so I've heard. I would imagine this doesn't apply to the Elise/Exige as much as it does classic Lotus and Esprits.

I can't speak from experience, but common sense suggest lots of torque + AWD is hell on the sti's drivetrain.

I'd personally choose the Lotus regardless of it being faster or slower.
    Couldn't agree more.

Agreed, and not to lose the point too much, but why not a Westfield XI, and go for maximum enjoyment at less than half the cost of the Lotus? Just a thought.

Apparently, Mr.Kipling's magazine doesn't care about the Westfield XI, because he's not going to test one.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

Well it's based on a Toyota drivetrain, but it is modified by Lotus. I guess that's where it could go wrong.

if anything i'd say the sti would be more costly and complex to maintain. but i don't really know about a lot of the lotus' bespoke bits. i suppose given british history they might be made of leakages and rust

Are we talking about the new STi here? You want to look good when you go flying off a cliff so I'd go with the Exige

He hasn't exactly made clear the roads he's gonna be driving on.. Are you gonna rally the car? Because then the choice is pretty obvious...

Common sense shows that You rarely ever see STI's or WRX's on the side of the road/track broken. I see more toyota's and mitsubishi's than subaru's on the side of the road.
