WOW!.
Just back from Germany signing paperwork and we had received legal documents in February about a building warrant for an extension of the Nurburgring race circuit using the Nordschleiffe circuit with new track sections added cutting the track in half and keeping the overal lap distance down. Sounded amazing !
All property owners must agree to the plans before German building goverment officials will give permission to proceed. So we were all given the outline plans. I'll get them scanned and posted later.
It seems the CHAMP World Series is looking to expand and with Nurburgring now only getting the German grand prix every two years, the local German region government are looking to use it for other series. Seems that CHAMP were approached but required significant changes to the track. It's hard to explain the drawing plans but it uses the Nurbugring main straight and pits but then only the short loop of the F1 track back to a section of the Nordshleiffe and then turns insude to a new section being built called the "Ummp-Dofk" - which has something to do with a hill section, so soudns as if it's goign to have some nasty up/downhill parts.
The plans show their being a super oval here to - WOW !
After that there is another new loop called the "Ralfi" - after some "local" race hero it seems - which hooks up to near the apartment and then another short section of Nordschleiffe back to the F1 main straight. It LOOKS as if the CHAMP cars are going to use only part of the oval, with other race series to be attracted to use the full oval.
BUT, my German IS rusty, so I'll need to wait till I get it all translated. The picture doesn't make it clear which, as it covers a number of other expansiosn in line withthe main Nurburgring circuit plans - where they've spent about 20M euros these last two years !!
There seems to be some form of compromise where the Nordschleiffe parts of the new proposed circuit for the CHAMP races will still be public and so can be used on public days on the track ... but will now incur a higher toll to maintain the better surface. Can't find out by how much yet Will let you know as soon as I do.
Am REALLY thinking this is a good thing as it can only mean increased property prices Scans and hopefully some translation will be up later.
