But the thing is, if it becomes relatively expensive compared to other econocars, why buy the 500? How much does it come up to in Euros, and how much does it come up to in dollars?

If it's built in Europe (or wherever else it is) and then shipped here, it'll probably be expensive, considering the weak dollar right now.

In Spain the base Jazz and the base 500 cost about the same. Mind you our base Jazz has a 1.2-litre 78bhp engine and the base 500 has a 69bhp 1.2-litre engine.

and thats why it needs to be marketed as a luxury small car, in the same way as the mini was. as much more of a fashion accessory than a cheap reliable econocar.

First off, Fiat and Alfa aren't bringing there entire line ups.

There going to start off with the Brera and 8C, and the Abarth, there will be no "base" Fiats.

I think they can find a niche market with the Brera and Abarth, with people who want something very different from the rest of the cars on the market, and even turn a profit.

I doubt they'll bring Abarths in the short or mid term.

As for Alfas of course they'll be bringing only the biggest cars. That's the 159 family (probably its replacement) and maybe the 169, if they ever launch that is.

The Fiat 500 Abarth that is, as a standalone brand as i read in C/D. But i pulled that Edmund's article out of the tubes anyway.

Also noteworthy, Fiat will supposedly be making Fiats in the U.S soon, no word on where.
if the most ugliest car (Scion) can do well in the U.S, I am sure Fiat can pull it out also, I'll take Fiat anytime my dad had one which I learned to drive, that is why i am a baaad @@@ss driver now...!

The 8C is a joke. It's all sold out anyway.

Yeah but it's all marketing hype you know, they can show it off and get people to admire the brand, then hopefully go out and buy a Brera.

Nice. Still, I doubt they will be affordable.

Is that such a good idea? Maserati stepping on the toes of Ferrari?

It's a limited edition halo car.

It won't dent Maserati or Ferrari sales.
