The "Let's help each other" thread

So.. the idea came to me when I saw a friend ask for a few votes on a local forum. Everyone said "ok, I'll vote" and so they did...

Noticing that we are here a bunch of users, I thought why not?




So.. I'll start.

Hey guys. I'm in a local contest with a nice prize (40d) but I'm a bit short of votes... if you would like to help me, it would be much appreciated.

To be honest, i see better pictures in the contest than yours. Manipulating votes is not what should be happening, especially not if there are prizes connected with it. Therefore I won't participate in the voting and I hope others will not do that either. Just my 2 cents.

Is it a popularity contest or a photo contest?

Sorry, I think your request is absurd. If you feel others are doing this to win, enter your photos somewhere else.

I would also urge the moderators on this board to make an effort to STRESS the importance of voting on the photographic quality of entries and not "the car," or flames, or wrecks etc. If it's a photo contest, judge the photo in it's entirety. There are three very simple criteria. Technical quality, composition and overall aesthetics. So is it clear, in focus with excellent color rendition? Is it framed / composed in an interesting compelling way? And lastly, would you like to see it hanging on your wall?

Last but not least, you should never choose a photo based on the entrant. That's not fair to anyone... including the person you're voting for. You're not helping them get better.

I didn't see this as a "vote me NOW" thread... just that every other contestant that has more than 10 votes got them using spam/friends spam/etc...
I know that constructive feedback is the way to go forward and contests won fair/lost fair are the ones to go but... I don't know... just thought that's the way to do in this contest....
