VAG diesels are way too harsh and noisy.

I'd also recommend something french. They seem to do well this small diesel hatch thing.

So a Fiat Stilo Dynamic 1.9JTD or Alfa Romeo 147 1.9JTDm/1.9JTD 16v Lusso is out of the question?

by personal experience, the car is good, but it's still a diesel.
