I think its to encourage someone to buy whos more commited, but might not have enough money upfront to purchase a F1 team normally. Ford did the same when they sold Jaguar, they sold it for a token $1 provided the buyer could secure future funding and support for the team.

In comparison, look at the sales of Jordan and Midland and both times the team sold for tens of millions, but there wasnt any money left to develop the car.

I supposed that, still I would have charged the price of say 10 Millions. besides, they are probably going to get free-sponsorships for the engine supplying.

I would bet that the new owner (if there will be one) will perform better than Honda itself. Just looking at what Stewart and RBR (not considering STR) did compared to what Jaguar did, with exactly the same team.

I was just thinking, isn't £40 million like (relatively) small amount money to run a F1 team?

probably it's the very minimum required. and probably it's also fair enough for earning the same results also did this year

Honda's issues previously have been mainly to do with management - Japan imposing their staff on the team (Nakamoto), putting pressure on the team (rushed integration of the 2nd windtunnel in '06) and surrounding themselves with corporate yes-men rather than chasing someone trying to lead the team themselves. Then theres of course Nick Fry, who was always the lesser man compared to David Richards.

Someone else owning the team would eliminate all those problems of course. But most of those wouldnt have existed next year regardless with Brawn in charge.

Rumor has it that Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helu has bought the team. Button and Bruno Senna are set to drive in 2009:

If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Wow, so mexico's going to have an F1 team. Well, at least his money will be there to support the team and hopefully it will have more success than the last few years.

Rumour is the key word here. Insiders say there is nothing to this fantasy.

So it was just another rumour, sadly.
